ABOUT THE PROJECT

The Sarah Stoddart Hazlitt Project grew out of the observation that the life and writing of Sarah Stoddart Hazlitt* has, with a few notable exceptions, been largely undervalued in the field of Romanticism. Started in 2021 as a project for a graduate seminar on Romantic literature, the primary goal of this website is to increase the accessibility and awareness of resources related to Stoddart's life, travels, and writing in order to expand recognition of her extraordinary literary and historical significance.

This website is a living document, meaning that it will be continually updated when new information is available. The last time the website is updated will be documented at the bottom of this page, so check back regularly for any news! The past, current, and future goals of the website will also be catalogued below as developments occur, as well as contact information for any inquiries, comments, or suggestions. To navigate this website, you can use the page buttons at the top of the screen (as well as those at the bottom of the home page). Throughout the website, several links are also provided for further reading and resources.

*Though she used the name "Mrs. Hazlitt" even after her divorce, to avoid confusion with her ex-husband, Sarah Stoddart Hazlitt will be referred to as "Stoddart Hazlitt" throughout the website, which will frequently be shortened to "Stoddart" or "SSH."
